The importance of deliverance for every Christian. Can Christian’s be possessed?

Demons exist as souls stripped of their physical form. Humans are comprised of a body, a spirit, and a soul. Our soul is our identity—our essence, memories, personality, and thoughts—demons emerge as disembodied entities, void of a physical body. These are, ominously, the offspring of fallen angels and human women, the ghostly legacies of the Nephilims, who roamed the earth before the flood of Noah. Importantly, demons were not forged by God; rather, they are the outcomes of fallen angelic rebellion, twisted beings resulting from the unholy unions of men and spirit.

In Genesis 6:1-2, 4, it is written:

*“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose. … [A]nd they bore children unto them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown.”*

The “sons of God,” those fallen angels, took for themselves human brides and gave rise to the nephilims—these mighty men of antiquity. Indeed, the esteemed pantheon of Greek mythology, featuring deities such as Zeus, Athena, and Hermes, bears the mark of hybrid origins, as they represent the offspring of these fallen angelic beings united with earthly women. The giants, including Goliath, were part of this fragmented lineage, remnants of a time when wickedness reigned on the earth.

God, seeing the rampant corruption, resolved to cleanse the earth of this malevolence, leading to the great flood that obliterated these cursed beings. Through this cataclysm, their souls were left adrift, eternally bound to wander between realms, trapped between the earthly and infernal domains. These spirits, longing for rest, seek out vessels to inhabit.

In Matthew 12:43-45, it states:

*“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through dry places seeking rest and does not find it. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.”*

Demons require a host, a physical body, which is why many Christians experience afflictions and illnesses. There are demons associated with lust and perversion, as well as those that bring sickness and mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and narcissism. Additionally, they can lead to infertility and fractured marriages, often pushing individuals into toxic relationships that result in tragedy or single parenthood. These forces actively work to undermine Godly unions by fostering hatred and diminishing intimacy between spouses. The spirits that facilitate this disruption are known as spirit spouses, with succubus being the female and incubus the male. These entities are particularly stubborn, jealous, and possessive. If you have experienced a sexual dream, it may be indicative of their presence in your life. These spirits can be inherited through your family lineage if previous generations did not address them. They also bind themselves to you in the spiritual realm through activities like watching pornography, engaging in masturbation, or having sex outside of marriage, leading to issues such as poverty, infertility because they deposit fibroid in the womb of the woman, and the inability to get married or keep a healthy relationship. They also cause miscarriages, particularly within marriages. This topic is extensive in itself.

Other demons contribute to mental health struggles like depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Many of the sins that afflict believers, including pornography and sexual immorality, stem from the demon of lust and perversion. The religious or Pharisee spirit continues to affect the church today. This demonic force diverts believers from a true connection with Christ, luring them into human traditions presented as divine mandates. Hosea 4:6 states that God’s people perish for lack of knowledge, and this spirit keeps believers unaware of the devil’s schemes, 2Corinthians 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.. By obscuring the truth, the devil gains leverage. These spirits mislead believers into thinking that Christians don’t need deliverance.. They take a kernel of truth and obscure it with lies, creating mental strongholds. While it is accurate that Christians cannot be wholly possessed as non-believers can (as depicted in films like “The Exorcist”), they can nonetheless be influenced. While their spirit cannot be inhabited or influenced because the Holy Spirit dwells within our spirit, our bodies and souls can be infiltrated by these entities. This can trap us into a cycle of sin that distances us from God.

God desires a relationship with us, rather than mere adherence to religious practices. He wishes to inscribe His laws and His will upon our hearts. The spirit of legalism leads many to believe that salvation is earned through works, rather than granted by grace. Salvation is a divine gift, and contrary to the beliefs of some, we cannot achieve a place in heaven through our actions, as exemplified by the Pharisees and Sadducees. These unclean spirits do not operate in isolation. They work in the lives of both believers and non-believers, creating openings for other spirits to enter by ensnaring individuals in specific sins. This paves the way for additional spirits to bring chaos into our lives. What begins as a small issue can escalate, as these unclean spirits continually entice individuals into deeper levels of sexual perversion, bondage, and sin.

So while the dramatic possession depicted in films like *The Exorcist* may captivate audiences, it does not reflect the reality for believers. Christians cannot be wholly possessed, for if they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit inhabits their spirit, guarding and guiding them. However, the presence of demons can still linger within the body and soul if left unchecked, operating through the doors of sin, trauma, or occult practices. The battle against these influences can be arduous, as demons pursue their relentless agenda: to steal, kill, and destroy.

Thus, even the faithful are often left to grapple with hidden sins and the weight of secret struggles, showing that spiritual warfare is a reality for all believers. It is a crucial calling to confront and renounce these unclean spirits, reclaiming one’s life from the shadows that seek to dominate and remember? Jesus came that we may we have life, and life more abundantly. Deliverance is very important in the lives of every believer and it’s the first step to true freedom in Christ Jesus, Amen.
